Internet Security

Internet Security

There are several companies that offer a Free Antivirus programme but this is essentially a small portion of their bought version and only covers a small amount of your security. This may be OK for someone that hardly uses the Internet but for most people this is inadequate.

The range of Internet Security programmes available is virtually unlimited. However you need to consider what is offered in the package, the ease of its installation and operation, and its general value for money.

Internet Security Suites

Internet Security
  • Bullguard

Bullguard Internet Security is the suite that I recommend for the majority of home users, You can download a free one month trial version which is the full version without limits and allows you to see if it suits your needs.
Bullguard has less interference with your system than most other packages so doesn't slow it down like some do. It is easy to install and although you can adjust all sorts of things it works well in its default mode, ideal for most home users.
As a value for money, this package is unbeatable.

  • Kaspersky

Kaspersky is a favourite for not just protecting the whole computer system but often used with small to medium networks. It has just as many features as Bullguard and as easy to install.
The main difference with Kaspersky is it has readily adjustable settings that are suited to network situation and can be manipulated readily for most business locations.
It is a bit more expensive but generally worth it in these locations.

  • Windows Defender

Windows Defender only provides a bare minimum level of protection but it doesn't slow the computer as much as Norton or McAfee, etc..
Microsoft's Windows Security (formerly Windows Defender) is now on a par with paid solutions such as McAfee and Norton. There, we said it: You don't need to pay for antivirus software anymore. However if you are just comparing with also ran security then it fits. It lacks an effective anti malware component so is only a partial defence.
You do need an antivirus for Windows 10, even though it comes with Microsoft Defender Antivirus. That's because this software lacks endpoint protection and response plus automated investigation and remediation. .and - Yes, you still need antivirus protection with a VPN.

  • McAfee

McAfee is the industry-standard antivirus software and comes with a powerful set of features and tools. Windows Defender is a free antivirus tool that offers basic features and functionalities. Overall, McAfee is the better program among the two.. People are hating McAfee antivirus software because of it's user interface is not user friendly, and it also slows down the computer processes more than the better programmes.
McAfee is better than Norton, et al but not a patch on the better packages like Bullguard, Kaspersky and Bit Defender.
